Ferrari runs an anti-counterfeiting reward program where anyone can report fake Ferrari products found in commercial sales. In addition to destroying three cars, Ferrari destroyed over 100,000 pieces of clothing and 17,438 pairs of shoes.
It's no secret that Ferrari is extremely protective of its brand. Sellers of fake Ferrari memorabilia, clothing, and even cars should be on guard, as they could be next on the list. In an infographic recently shared on social media, the Italian brand revealed that out of the hundreds of thousands of counterfeits destroyed, three of them were cars.
Ferrari cars have long been popular for replicas and imitations, and there are likely thousands of fake examples worldwide. It is unclear how Ferrari identified the three cars they wanted to destroy, but their destruction only scratches the surface of the problem.
In 2023, at least 100,351 pieces of clothing disguised as official Ferrari products were destroyed. Additionally, 30,161 perfumes, 17,231 bags, 17,438 pairs of shoes, and 60,903 watches were discarded. Ferrari did not stop there, as it also destroyed 13,415 belts, 11,500 labels, 800 scooters, 872 model cars, 91,229 glasses, 1,092 soccer balls, and 57,503 wallets.
Ferrari operates an anti-counterfeiting reward program that rewards those who report products that potentially violate Ferrari trademarks and are sold in commercial environments. Those submitting a report must provide details about the business entity selling the fake products, the approximate number of products involved, and photos showing the imitations of Ferrari trademarks, including labels.
The company is primarily interested in products sold in commercial establishments, as these are the only products they will accept as the basis for a report. Therefore, it is unlikely that someone making a Ferrari replica in their basement solely for private use will have their vehicle seized and destroyed.
