Fashion has long been known for its extravagance, which explains why trend enthusiasts won’t hesitate to spend over $1,000 on quirky accessories like GPU purses.
For those with a flair for the eccentric, these unique bags, featuring outdated PC graphics cards as their centerpiece, are a must-have. Thankfully, the website GPU Purses, created by Teresa Barton, a scientist and researcher at AI platform Databricks, offers these avant-garde creations "for the GPU rich." Her designs feature a transparent rectangular structure perfectly shaped to encase a GPU, with options for long or short straps.
The most expensive piece in the collection is the H100 Purse, which contains the Nvidia H100 processor, known for powering ChatGPT-4, making it a one-of-a-kind AI training GPU. This explains the staggering price tag of $66,000.

For that astronomical amount, many would prefer to buy a Hermès Birkin bag or fill their wardrobe with quirky yet charming bags from luxury brands like the Balenciaga Lay’s Potato Chip Bag Clutch ($1,800), Louis Vuitton 'Trash Bag' Bag ($2,000), Moschino Milk Carton Bag ($1,000), or even the Vetements ‘DHL’ Pouch ($1,000)—and still save money.
However, it's not just style that drives these purchases. GPU purses offer more than just a unique look. As Barton explained in an interview with Financial Times, "You can't buy a Chanel bag in Silicon Valley... you'll be looked down upon." She added, "If you wear the GPU bag, people will approach you... I can't explain how many men will want to talk to you."

At the heart of these handbags are Nvidia GPUs, the same ones powering AI models. While this might draw attention from men, impressing women in the fashion world may be a completely different challenge. Barton, who holds a master’s degree in computer science from Brown University, has worked at companies like Pixar, SpaceX, Tinder, and Snapchat.
For now, GPU purses stand as a fusion of technology, fashion, and social phenomena, reflecting how advancements in computing can find their way into the most unexpected fashion trends.
