Inaugurated last spring in the heart of the Eternal City, Six Senses Rome marks the entry of the renowned hotel operator into Italy with its first urban hotel solution.
This five-star luxury destination offers 96 rooms in the historic Salviati Cesi Mellini palace, just steps away from Piazza Venezia, and has been significantly renovated while respecting its stratigraphic layers: from the structural elements of the 1950s still visible in the all-day dining area to the large 4th-century stone uncovered during excavations.
The interior designed by Patricia Urkiola combines classical elements - linked to the city's DNA - with a more modern touch, in a balanced work with subtle tones and a strong connection to nature. Therefore, the spaces are a fascinating array of references, with carpets inspired by Roman mosaics, decorations reminiscent of those in the Triclinium of the Domus Vigna Lupi, and a wide use of local materials such as opus signinum (cocciopesto), travertine, and wood.
Six Senses Rome offers the concept of contemporary hospitality, where part of the services is directly connected to the city and available to locals as well as guests. From this perspective, the return of historical structures to the citizens can first be seen as urban regeneration intervention and only then as architectural.
The available spaces also include BIVIUM - a restaurant-café-bar open all day and an exclusive meeting place - which merges with a winter garden full of fragrant Mediterranean plants such as figs, pomegranates, grapes, ivy, and aromatic herbs. Earthy tones and natural surfaces create a familiar space, with custom furniture designed by Patricia Urkiola and produced by Prisma, an Italian brand specialized in hospitality equipment.
The lobby bar - designed to optimize mixologists' efficiency - features a robust tubular structure made of AISI 304 stainless steel, supporting an impressive marble cladding, with front parts of the work section made of bronze stainless steel. The same warm finish is used on the coffee counter and in the details of the standalone showcases that rhythmically enhance the space. These showcases, set on islands of Roman travertine and fully enclosed in glass to provide views from all sides, display wines and seasonal products preserved thanks to cooling and ventilation systems that ensure temperature stability and uniformity.
Also custom-made by Prisma is the pastry and ice cream counter. Its double cooling system, as well as its ice cream containers flush with the surface, are perfectly integrated into a block of stone and wood.
Finally, the space is enriched with a show kitchen station where Prisma, together with Therma Electrolux, provided the equipment and furniture needed for the hotel kitchen staff to efficiently meet the special requirements of events and other occasions.
