At the end of the 18th century, a bottle of Perrier-Jouet Brut Millesime became the most expensive champagne ever sold at auction…
Now, that same record-breaking champagne is reappearing in Christie’s auction house offering. The renowned precious drink from 1874 will be part of the Finest and Rarest Wines and Spirits auction this December, along with a collection of desirable cuvees selected by Perrier-Jouet brand cellar master Séverine Frerson.
Created by Charles Perrier, the son of the founder of the cult brand, the 1874 cuvee was a product of exceptional vintage and features the award-winning Chardonnay grapes from Cramant, one of the most original and prestigious Perrier-Jouet brand vineyards. With a dry style in the base, this champagne was intended for the British market, where it stirred up the world of champagne lovers. After setting a new record in 1888, vintage champagne remained in the lead until 1967.
More than a hundred years later, it will be part of Christie's offer again, and it is expected to reach a price between 13,000 and 20,000 dollars. On top of that, champagne comes with a unique visit to the champagne house in France.
You and nine others will be able to stay at the Maison Belle Epoque in Epernay, the home of the founding family. The famous estate includes one of the largest private collections of French Art Nouveau in Europe and, of course, an abundance of delicious champagne. Guests will be able to enjoy a guided tour through the house and wine cellars, with a meal prepared for them by Chef Pierre Gagnaire with three Michelin stars.
In addition, a bottle of Perrier-Jouet Brut Millesime 1964 champagne, created by the sixth master of the cellar, Andre Baveret, will be on auction. That champagne is expected to reach $ 1,000 to $ 1,500 and comes with a trip for two to the Maison Belle Epoque. Other Perrier-Jouet offerings will include the Belle Epoque magnum from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, the Belle Epoque Blanc de Blanc from 2002 and the Belle Epoque Rose from 2004 and 2006.
The auction will take place on December 2nd and 3rd!
