A refined evocation of Sicily's diverse culture and centuries-old traditions...
On the western coast of Sicily, just a few minutes from the historic city of Mazara del Vallo, lies Almar Giardino di Costanza Resort & Spa – a luxurious five-star resort nestled in the lush Sicilian countryside. The surroundings are adorned with olive groves, vineyards, and typical Mediterranean plants. The structure evokes Trinacria through its colors and architectural details, representing the oldest Sicily with influences from various dominant periods, from classical and Arabic to Norman eras.
The newly opened wellness area follows this design philosophy and evokes ancient Sicily. Designed by Studio Apostoli, Almablu Wellness & SPA becomes a favorite destination for a multisensory journey – a mosaic of cultures, traditions, and treatments, harmoniously combined in a tailored environment. Three thematic zones reintroduce elements of the most influential Sicilian dominations: Norman, Arabic, and Roman, reflected in the finishes, hues, and wellness treatments.
The journey begins in the Norman-inspired world, influenced by Constance of Hauteville. It consists of a medium-temperature biosauna, a Finnish sauna, and an "ice room" with a waterfall and plunge pool, beneficial for circulation and energy enhancement. The design evolves to include typical Nordic suggestions, geometric cuts, black wood, and diffused lighting.
It continues in the large Arab-Roman-inspired hammam, composed of a tepidarium, caldarium, and laconium, with the experience enriched by sensory showers with chromotherapy and "rain" effects. Warm, enveloping tones and extensive use of marble, travertine, and decorative mosaics evoke the atmosphere of the baths, extending to the tea room and relaxation room – the final point of the journey.
Connecting the thematic zones, the rectangular "Arabic patio" serves as a decompression environment and a symbolic passage between cultures. It leads visitors to the Turkish salt bath. Almablu Wellness & SPA includes a large indoor pool with a swimming track. Next to the pool is a fitness area for cardio, Pilates, and yoga activities, as well as a large beauty area for treatments and massages inspired by classical Chinese medicine.
"To be able to tell the story of a people, a territory, and share with visitors the traditions, ancient customs, and evoke the genius loci (spirit of the place) through the medium of wellness, we had to face great challenges, which certainly rewarded us in the end," comments Alberto Apostoli, the founder of the firm. He continues: "Almar Giardino di Costanza and Almablu Wellness & SPA strive to be a hymn to Sicily, its cultural richness – a 'zero' project, a blend of different cultures and traditions. It represents the coexistence of the West with traditional oriental medicine, a refined stage where wellness as a heritage of the past merges with a contemporary approach to well-being."
