Put aside your favorite whisky glass for a moment and try something truly unique and unusual...
After the past few years when the world grappled with the coronavirus pandemic, the mere mention of masks might raise hairs on the back of your neck. However, the introduction of the Smoke Mask, a new whisky glass by the brand Smokehead, seems set to change that perception. This intriguing brand has devised a new way of sipping whisky that offers an ultimate sensory experience.
Smokehead is a brand of single malt Scotch whisky owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, the company behind distilleries such as Rosebank, Tamdhu, and Glengoyne. Smokehead does not have its own distillery, so the exact source of their whisky is unknown, although the brand claims it originates from the Isle of Islay, a Scottish region home to distilleries like Lagavulin, Laphroaig, and Ardbeg, among others. Smokehead whisky is quite heavily smoked, as can be expected based on its name, and is available in several versions, including Tequila Cask Terminado, Rum Cask Rebel, and Twisted Stout.
The Smoke Mask whisky glass was designed by artist and glassblower Eliot Walker, the winner of the second season of the Netflix show Blown Away. It is crafted to cover your nose and mouth while drinking, allowing you to simultaneously enjoy the aroma and taste of the whisky. The Smoke Mask is made of blown glass and features a twisted silver base, with a gold skull seal on the front, in line with the design philosophy of the Smokehead brand.
“This project allows us to stay true to our ethos that Smokehead never limits the ways in which one can enjoy its whisky,” said Brown, one of the leaders of the Smokehead brand. “We hope the Smoke Mask will be so inspiring that it will attract even enthusiasts of other malts to use it.” Additionally, this mask will make you look like Bane from the movie The Dark Knight Rises, which is pretty cool."
