Can Dubai become known for something other than the iconic Burj Khalifa skyscraper?
If local developer Emaar Properties successfully executes its ambitious vision, the answer could be yes. Emaar has unveiled plans for the Emaar Super Tower, a project that could rival their previous record-breaker, Burj Khalifa, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Although the project is still in the conceptual phase, the goal is clear—to build a skyscraper that could surpass or come close to the height of their previous architectural feat.
The new tower will incorporate state-of-the-art technology and sustainable practices, though the location has not yet been confirmed. Rumors suggest it could rise near Dubai Creek or in downtown Dubai. According to Ahlanlive.com, the tower's design could take one of four forms: a rocket-shaped tower, a futuristic structure with Gothic spires, a glass skyscraper resembling a tube, or a luxurious high-rise themed around opulence.
Just like the 828-meter-tall Burj Khalifa, the Emaar Super Tower, which could reach a similar height, will house luxury offices, leisure facilities, hotels, and residences. If everything goes according to plan, this project will compete with the Burj Azizi skyscraper, which comes with a $1.63 billion price tag and is set to stand 731 meters tall, making it the second tallest skyscraper in the world. Burj Azizi, with over 131 floors, will dominate Dubai's skyline in the World Trade Center area along Sheikh Zayed Road, with completion scheduled for 2028.
