If We Ask Designers - The Exterior is the New Interior

Architectural spaces that break the boundaries between interior and exterior, characteristic of modern architecture, have inspired a new way of designing with more open and connected approaches, where views intertwine.

Since the 1990s, GANDIABLASCO products have been inspired by this type of architecture, which shares many approaches with the Mediterranean way of life, where the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces are blurred, and a large part of the day is spent in transitional areas such as verandas and terraces.

However, we were still in transition without being fully aware of it. Indoor and outdoor spaces continued to have their identities through furniture, lighting, and accessories, so the process of creating a true sense of continuity and the same aesthetic approach was not fully complete. Until now.

This is the direction toward which the new GANDIABLASCO products are aimed. Some collections have already been designed with these criteria in mind and can be used both outdoors and indoors. The ONDE collection, designed by Luca Nichetto, is strongly inspired by the aesthetics of the modern movement of the 1950s, perfect for undefined spaces that are neither strictly interior nor exterior.

The ONSEN collection, designed by Francesco Meda and David Quincoces, also relies on modern furniture with its stainless steel structures. It connects with the warmth usually found in interior furniture through its leather-like straps, which are actually made from durable vinyl material.

The upholstered volumes of the ERNO and MASS collections are technically developed for outdoor use, but their warm textures and designs make them versatile enough to fit into both environments. The ERNO modules, designed by Alejandra Gandía-Blasco Lloret, stand out with their intriguing aesthetics. The MASS collection, designed by Todd Bracher, features a more organic and sinuous design.

This new, more flexible mindset regarding interior and exterior environments has opened the door to greater readiness to mix and match different products from the Gandía Blasco Group. These four collections perfectly communicate with designs from other styles, such as the informal GRAPY armchair by Kensaku Oshiro, SAIL poufs shaped like grains designed by Héctor Serrano, ARAM steel tables and chairs designed by Nendo, or the artistic IRIS side tables and club tables designed by Alejandra Gandía-Blasco Lloret.
