Magnificent palaces are the perfect representation of Saudi Arabia's immense wealth...
Beautiful, traditional, and a house of heritage, the Red Palace will now be transformed into an ultra-luxurious hotel to share its grandeur with guests from all corners of the world. Aedas Middle East has designed this historic structure as a unique boutique hotel, originally built in 1943 by King Abdulaziz for his son, Crown Prince Saud. The Red Palace, located in the historic Al-Futah district in the heart of old Riyadh, will merge the old and the new with this development.
The 36,500-square-meter palace, once home to King Saud bin Abdulaziz, the second ruler of modern Saudi Arabia, will open its doors with a new role. The palace, which served as the seat of the Council of Ministers for over thirty years, will now offer more than 70 rooms, 8 spa suites, and 5 premium restaurants and cafes. Ignacio Gomez, Global Design Director of Aedas, said, “Our design aims not only to recreate the physical space but to evoke a sense of time, particularly the solemnity and grandeur associated with the emotional significance of the Kingdom’s history and its vision for the future. We want to create an experience that will transport visitors to another era, immersing them in the palace’s rich heritage while also reflecting its significance in the present and future.”
Aedas will engage Parisian interior designer Tristan Auer to expand and redesign the property. While esteemed spaces such as the main palace and the historic mosque will be preserved and renovated, the 9-hectare art-deco estate will include new constructions like annexes, a spa and wellness center, an outdoor pool, courtyards, and landscaped gardens. The Red Palace boutique hotel, which has hosted international guests, government officials, and other prominent figures, is expected to open to visitors from around the world by 2025.
With luxury standards rising every year and people seeking to experience only the finest services, the rise of palace hotels is not surprising. Last year, the Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, India, built in 1835, was named the best hotel in the world. The Red Palace boutique hotel will be another feather in the cap of unparalleled Saudi hospitality, rivaling its counterparts around the globe.
