Charles Leclerc, the Ferrari Formula 1 driver, made history as the first Monegasque to win his home race at the Monaco Grand Prix. However, he also became the first to have a minor fender bender with his luxurious $400,000 car in the same year!
Even the best drivers in the world have off days. Fresh from the glory of winning the Italian Grand Prix, Ferrari F1 star Charles Leclerc experienced a mishap in his hometown of Monaco. While driving his $400,000 Ferrari Purosangue SUV, Leclerc rear-ended another car. This incident occurred while he was behind the wheel of his 751-horsepower Purosangue, which he took delivery of earlier this year.
The Purosangue may have slightly less power than the 1,000 horsepower Ferrari SF-24 Leclerc drives on the track, but this luxury SUV should have been easy to handle, especially for someone like him. In a video posted by the Instagram page supercar.fails, the silver Ferrari Purosangue with diamond-cut wheels is seen approaching the famous Fairmont Hairpin as a bus passes in the opposite direction.
Leclerc, who has seven F1 championship wins under his belt, seemed distracted by the bus as he crept forward and lightly bumped the car in front of him, a Volkswagen Golf filled with passengers. At that moment, the camera catches Leclerc leaning forward and continuing his conversation with his passenger, seemingly unbothered by the minor fender bender. The passengers in the Golf didn’t appear concerned either, as no one got out to check for damage.
Unfortunately for Leclerc, a bystander caught the whole thing on video; otherwise, it would have just been another ordinary day in Monaco. Interestingly, that very corner is part of the Monaco Grand Prix circuit, only raced in the opposite direction. If Leclerc ever needs an excuse for a small accident, this is definitely a good one!
