Trust Richard Rawlings and his Gas Monkey Garage team to come up with a Ferrari project that will blow everyone's mind—except maybe Ferrari's...
A massively modified Ferrari Testarossa 6×6, sporting six wheels, was spotted on a trailer in Dallas, Texas, by Instagram user Samuel Huber. If there was any doubt as to who might own this wild 6-wheeler, Richard Rawlings himself responded to the post with the universal "Caught red-handed" emoji.
Although the video doesn't show much of Rawlings' Testarossa 6×6 model, filmed from the rear while it sat on a trailer, it's clear that all the wheels—yes, all six—are massively oversized. The rear end of the Testarossa has clearly been modified to accommodate an extra axle. Given that the Testarossa is a mid-engine Ferrari, it's unclear how the team made space for the additional axle at the rear. Unless, of course, they removed the original 4.9-liter V12 engine with 390 horsepower and replaced it with something else.
Another project Gas Monkey Garage worked on for the SEMA show was an electric Testarossa, or as they call it, the "Teslarossa." This would simplify things, as they wouldn't have to engineer the task of moving the engine backward, extending the drive shafts, and figuring out which of the four rear wheels would get power.
Earlier this year, Richard Rawlings purchased five Ferrari Testarossas that had been used in films. If one—or two—of them were sacrificed for this incredible Ferrari project, it might not be the worst thing in the world.
