At the price of $5.5 million, the U-Boat Worx Super Sub is the world's fastest personal submarine, specifically designed to keep up with long-nosed dolphins...
Providing an unobstructed view, this vessel has enough supplies to stay submerged for 96 hours.
Dutch submarine manufacturer U-Boat Worx unveiled its latest luxury underwater vehicle at the 2023 Monaco Yacht Show, calling it the fastest private submarine ever conceived. Named the Super Sub, the new sports submersible from U-Boat Worx offers unparalleled speed, agility, and depth capabilities, putting it in a class of its own. Originally introduced in 2021, the Dutch company finally presented a fully functional version of the Super Sub at the Monaco Yacht Show. In addition to high performance, the luxury sub also features the latest industry-leading technology and safety features, making it perfect for adventure-seeking billionaires.
The standout feature of the new U-Boat Worx Super Sub is the incredible speed it can achieve underwater. It's equipped with the best propulsion system with four powerful thrusters providing an impressive 100 kW of thrust, allowing it to reach speeds of up to 10 knots. To put that in context, the Super Sub is not only 7 knots faster than the average private submarine but also 3-4 knots faster than long-nosed dolphins. Additionally, its design and rudders make the submarine extremely agile. The submersible can ascend and descend at angles of up to 45 degrees and perform sharp turns. As a result, it can easily keep up with large marine creatures like dolphins, sea turtles, and even sharks.
Characterized by its long tail and advanced wing design, the Super Sub is claimed to be the most hydrodynamic submarine on the market. Besides its incredible top speed, the luxury submarine can dive to depths of up to 300 meters, significantly more than other comparable private submarines. It also features a fully transparent acrylic hull at the front, promising a completely unobstructed 360-degree view of the outside. Things like ballast tanks, batteries, and other components are hidden from passengers' view to allow them to focus on enjoying the underwater world.
The Super Sub debuted just a few months after the tragic accident of Titan, a deep-sea submersible designed to explore the Titanic wreck, which killed all five people on board after a catastrophic implosion. Clearly, the incident had a chilling effect on the personal submersible industry, scaring off potential buyers. However, U-Boat Worx was keen to highlight all the modern safety features of the Super Sub, making it one of the safest luxury submarines. It is equipped with something called maximum depth protection, which prevents the submarine from exceeding its certified depth of 300 meters. The watercraft is capable of automatically ascending until it returns within the required depth limits.
Furthermore, the Super Sub includes a safety buoy setup that indicates the submersible's location when it resurfaces. It also helps the submarine rapidly return to the surface if anything goes wrong. Additionally, there are enough supplies on board to keep passengers alive for at least 96 hours in case of an emergency. The price of the U-Boat Worx Super Sub starts at €5.2 million (approximately $5.5 million). The Super Sub showcased at the Monaco Yacht Show will be delivered by the end of 2023, with the next unit scheduled for delivery in October 2024.
