Audemars Piguet has once again proven its commitment to innovation with the introduction of the Royal Oak Concept Split-Seconds Chronograph GMT Large Date watch.
This impressive model stands out with its use of a new technology called Chroma Forged Technology (CFT) Carbon—a material developed over five years. While traditional carbon materials are colored through resin, CFT carbon colors the carbon fibers themselves, creating a unique pattern of vibrant blue and black.
Traditionally, color in carbon composites was achieved through the resin that binds the carbon fibers and provides pigmentation, whereas without it, the fibers remain in their natural shade. Audemars Piguet has reversed this process by introducing CFT Carbon technology, where the pigment is applied directly to the carbon fibers before they are set into the mold. This innovation allows complete control over the color and pattern in the final product.
It took AP five years to perfect this patented process, marking the return of forged carbon after an eight-year hiatus. The result is visible on the 43 mm case of this model, characterized by a hypnotic blend of black and shiny blue elements. Unlike traditional forged carbon, where the patterns are random, AP's new technique allows for controlled yet subtly unique combinations of colored fibers, making each watch distinct.
However, this new approach is not merely aesthetic. CFT carbon retains the lightness and durability of traditional forged carbon but increases scratch resistance due to its lower resin content. In addition to the innovative case, the watch also features ceramic components such as the bezel, crown, and pushers, known for their extreme durability and scratch resistance.
The Royal Oak Concept line, renowned for transforming avant-garde ideas into luxurious, wearable timepieces, is beautifully embodied in the Split-Seconds Chronograph GMT Large Date model. The watch boasts a skeletonized dial with black sub-dials, a blue inner ring, and sub-dials accented by white gold markers and hands coated with luminous material. Inside the watch is the automatic Calibre 4407 movement, supporting functions such as the flyback chronograph, split-seconds, GMT, and large date display. Visually and functionally, the model is complemented by a striking blue-black rubber strap, ensuring both comfort and luxury.
With the introduction of the Royal Oak Concept Split-Seconds Chronograph GMT Large Date watch, Audemars Piguet not only continues its tradition of innovation but sets new standards for what can be achieved with forged carbon in luxury watchmaking. Enthusiasts eagerly await further designs that will emerge from the workshops of this prestigious brand.
