Chopard is once again at the forefront of blending traditional celebrations with luxury watchmaking...
This year, their tribute to Mexican culture reaches new heights with a unique edition of the L.U.C Full Strike watch, carefully crafted in honor of the Day of the Dead. This model is not just a timepiece but a story of cultural respect and extraordinary watchmaking skill, showcased through miniature artistic inlays executed with precision and creativity.
Chopard’s interpretation of "Día de los Muertos" in the eleventh edition of the L.U.C Full Strike combines a visual celebration of life and death with a sophisticated minute repeater mechanism. At the heart of this watch lies the L.U.C caliber 08.01-L, demonstrating Chopard's mastery in watch complications. This minute repeater, known as the "king of watch mechanisms," produces a crystal-clear sound thanks to sapphire gongs made from a single piece of sapphire, with no joints or glue, resulting in a pure tone that earned it the prestigious "Aiguille d’Or" award in 2017.
The dial of this model is a cultural mosaic, crafted over 100 hours using opal, carnelian, aventurine, golden obsidian, and black jade to form the iconic Mexican calavera symbol. This symbol of "Día de los Muertos" is brought to life with layered details in solid gold, while the guilloché background adds an extra layer of luxury and traditional watchmaking craftsmanship.
The case, made from responsibly sourced gold, features a hand-engraved bezel with motifs inspired by Mexican art. The functional elements of the watch are also designed with black hammers and power reserve indicators shaped like the calavera’s eyes, creating a balance between functionality and aesthetics.
Chopard has added a patented safety mechanism to protect the delicate internal components from damage, ensuring the longevity of the movement even during the chime sequence. Each watch in the L.U.C collection bears the Poinçon de Genève seal of quality, a symbol of superior craftsmanship and attention to every detail.
The dedication of Chopard’s L.U.C Full Strike series to celebrating the Day of the Dead is not just an homage to horological excellence but also a bridge between tradition and modernity, merging global cultures through an artistic approach that transcends the usual boundaries of watchmaking.
