IWC Schaffhausen has teamed up with Warner Bros. Pictures to jointly introduce a pair of limited-edition watches in honour of the upcoming superhero movie Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom…
Both models are based on the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month model, which debuted in 2017 with a Ceratanium case. Each limited to 25 pieces, the pair is inspired by props worn by the villains in the movie, Black Manta, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Dr. Stephen Shin, played by Randall Park. In capturing the look of the props, both limited editions feature a completely black finish along with brightly colored contrasting elements, either in red or blue.
The pair of Aquaman-themed watches are quite large in size, measuring 49mm in width and 19.5mm in thickness, making them some of the largest and boldest models IWC has ever created. However, despite their massive size, the watches will not be uncomfortably heavy on the wrist thanks to the use of IWC Ceratanium material, an alloy that combines titanium and ceramic. The watches are also equipped with the SafeDive System on the bezel, which prevents accidental changes in dive time by allowing the outer bezel to adjust only in the counter-clockwise direction. Moreover, the pair of watches offer 100m water resistance.
As for the dial, both iterations have matching red or blue details, which can also be seen on the hands and inner frame done in Super-LumiNova. The honeycomb pattern over the calendar display offers a glimpse into the complex mechanism ticking inside the case. The watches feature a perpetual calendar with digital displays for the date and month, contributing to readability.
To power the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month watches, the internal caliber 89802 is used, an automatic integrated chronograph. The highly complex mechanism operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a power reserve of 68 hours. The watches are available in selected IWC boutiques and are priced at $57,600 each.
