Like Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia, Kuwait has invested in art
There was a time when the Kuwaiti al-Sabah collection, founded by Naser Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah and his wife Sheikha Hussa, was the most avant-garde in the Gulf. The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Kuwait began collecting art in 1975 and established Dar al Athar al Islamiyyah, a cultural organization overseeing museums. Within a few years, it became the Kuwait Museum of Islamic Art, which now houses over 30,000 works of art collected from the 1st to the 13th century.
